Artemis


Artemis was the daughter of Zeus and Leto, and the twin sister of Apollo. She was the goddess of wild animals, the hunt, vegetation, chastity, and childbirth. Accompanied by Nymphs, she dance in mountains and forest. Artemis was known for her unpitying wrath when offended. Artemis was the protector of the girl child upto the age of marriage.

Her twin brother Apollo was similarly the protector of the any child. Together the two gods were also bringers of sudden death and disease - Artemis targetted women and girls, and Apollo men and boys.
